Braunton History

St Brannock
St Brannock an early Christain Saint landed at Saunton at the mouth of the River Taw during the 6th Century, he settled by the Caen stream, where he built the first church in Devon. During his time he gathered a sizeable following. The settlement grew up around the saint's church which was later changed to Braunton, and eventually to the current Braunton that we know of today. Braunton history has put this village on the map as it is also made famous for The Braunton Great Field, a medieval system of strip farming believed to be one of only two remaining in the country.
